INTRO
As part of its continuous efforts to mitigate the impact of Syria crisis on Jordanian host communities and to strengthen the social cohesion between Jordanians and Syrians, UNDP Jordan has implemented a project of skills exchange between Syrian refugees and Jordanians. This project has provided opportunities for Syrian and Jordanian to exchange technical skills and experience, while providing an urgent income support for the beneficiaries. It was designed to economically support Syrians and to boost their economic stability, while also helping Jordanians develop sustainable livelihoods with their newly developed skills. It also has enabled Jordanians to see firsthand how Syrian refugees contribute to their community. Furthermore, UNDP and United Nations Behavioural Initiative (UNBI) have been leveraging research in behavioural science showing that opportunities for these kinds of informal exchanges and interdependent work towards a common goal can help break down prejudice and stereotypes, thus promoting regional peace and stability in Jordan.
